~~Hover O'er Me~~
Notes
- Music and lyrics written March 2009.
- Recording information:
- Recorded and final mix 3/11/09
- Equipment: Ibanez acoustic guitar, Shure microphone
- Recorded on Korg PXR4, mixed with N-track studio
- Trivia:
- One of three stylistically similar songs written and recorded in a single week, the other two being 'Lake Michigan Midnite' and 'Give Me a Thought Sometime.'
- Each line in this song is taken, mostly verbatim, from various places in Shakespeare's Hamlet. This is the only Narpar song written in that way.
- There were several earlier drafts of lyrics written with lines from Hamlet, starting from around the fall of 2007. None of these early drafts were ever put to music. This particular version was inspired by the reading of the line "Save me and hover o'er me with your wings, You heavenly guards!" (3.4.100) in Kenneth Branagh's film of Hamlet.
Alt. Titles/Versions
- Around three earlier sets of lyrics written in a similar way, but significantly more bitter in tone and utilizing completely different lines of the play.
Lyrics
A heart unfortified
Or mind impatient
Lapsed in time
Though not passion
A rhapsody of words
Calls virtue hypocrite
Takes the rose from the forehead
Of an innocent love
Save me, and hover o'er me with your wings
Save me, and hover o'er me with your wings
I'll send some precious instance of myself
After the thing I love
And cast my nighted color off
I'll send some precious instance of myself
A heart unfortified
Or mind impatient
Lapsed in time
Indifferent cold
Save me, and hover o'er me with your wings
Save me, and hover o'er me with your wings
Live History
[never played]
